SO CLOSE WE CAN TASTE IT.

The current end date for the house is October 8.  For that to happen, the following will have to happen in 2 weeks:

- all cabinets completed

- countertops fabricated and installed

- all interior paint completed

- final wood floor coats and sealants done

- appliance delivered and installed

- lights installed

- stain on interior trim and exterior windows done

- garage door fabricated and installed

- a whole lotta cleaning

LET THERE BE BLACK(BERRY).

Despite the sentiments of one particular neighbor, we’ve decided to paint the house a very dark color.  At first we settled on a color appropriately named “Black” but we ended on a slightly lighter “Blackberry”.  Justification is that A) we like it and B) there is so much glass on the font and back that there is a relatively low percentage of painted surface.  When the glass is all uncovered and the wood trim is stained, the house will “fade” away and the architectural elements will really stand out.  And yes, that IS an orange soffit under the porch.

FLOORS!

Jeff from Accent Flooring has outdone himself again.  Completing the 2nd coat and sealant on the walnut floors today, things are really looking great.  The stairs from the guys at Abacus Woodworking blend perfectly and the house really feels like it’s starting to come together.  We also chose an orange soffit for under the porch.  A bold but fun move that fits with the spirit and era of the house.  This coming week:  painting, cabinets, more tile and staining.

MOVE IN READY OR JUST READY TO MOVE?

Things are getting so close that each day feels like we could move in.  Until we realize that we don’t have a front door, there is still no water, the floors aren’t done and the kitchen cabinets are barely attached.  At least it looks close to being done.

This week has been prepping the exterior for paint, assembling the kitchen cabinets and lots of sanding of the walnut floors and custom walnut stairs.  Really love the work that the folks at Abacus did on the stairs – amazing craftspeople!
