MOVE IN DAY.

353 days after closing on the house, we’re ready to move in.  99% of the finishes are done (still waiting on a backsplash, some electrical updates needed, some windows cleaned) but we’re moving in.  Packers and movers arrive today and with a few more hours of hard work, we’ll be sleeping in the new place tonight.

Final pictures and before and after photos will be posted soon.

LADDER.

The screen / ladder element that acts as both a handrail and divider between the entry and the dining room went in today.  Still needing some finishing touches and some tweaking, it’s almost done.

RIBBON STAIRS.

DSC06693

The long-awaited ribbon stairs are finally in.  These stairs connecting the living to the dining room are fabricated from a single sheet of steel and bent into a stair shape.  Supports are welded underneath and the appearance is a thin line of stairs that seem to float in space.  Caleb, our metal guy, did another amazing job on these as well as the metal fireplace hearth and the cable railing on the stairs.

FRIDAY NIGHT (LOW)LIGHTS.

The bad news:  the schedule has slipped again.  The final details are taking longer than expected.  New done date is October 23.

The good news:  Finishes are coming along well.  The 16’ light in the kitchen looks great above the island and the appliances make a huge difference.

NO MAN IS AN ISLAND.

The countertops are in and the 15 foot island looks amazing.  Cleverly designed to house both working areas and a dining area, the countertop virtually floats on a 4 inch rod.  Underneath is a skyscraper’s worth of steel supports and hats off to Anna the architect and Caleb the steel maker for a great look!  The cabinets are finishing up and the rest of the appliances will be in tomorrow.

THE FINAL PUSH.

Today was the day we were supposed to be done (well, after 2 months delay from the original schedule).  The new date is October 19 and today we had some good progress.  Countertops are all in, most of the lighting is done.  We have our tankless water heater in and most of the paint is up.  With another week of a hard push, we’re told we can make it.  Fingers crossed!

LET THERE BE LIGHT!

After almost a year of having a dark, empty house, we were able turn (most of) the lights on today.  The recessed lights are in and the bathroom pendants are being installed.  There are still lots of adjustments to do, tweaks to be made and details to sort out but the lights are working and the vision from many months ago is coming to life.  Also, the red of the nest is nearly done, the cabinets are almost complete and the final steel should all be delivered this week.   Despite the additional schedule slip (now from Oct 8 to Oct 19), we’re in the home stretch.  Quick pictures here and more in the last album below.
